Product Description French fries are made, not born! You can get all the fresh flavor of homemade fries, as opposed to those freezer burned specimens that come from a plastic bag, by making them at home. This specialty gadget cuts those spuds into neat even sticks, season as you wish and fry (or bake).
Amazon.com Review This lightweight cutter divides a potato into its french-fry essence in a jiffy. One blade creates up to 49 3/8-inch fries with a single lever-push. The other creates up to 25 half-inch fries. You'll get those numbers, however, only if you precisely shape a large potato to fit the bed. The bed's size is the cutter's only drawback. Even if you cut a large potato to fit the head, the fry length is at most 3-1/2 inches. That length, however, is ideal for carrot, cucumber, and zucchini batons to assemble a vegetable tray around a bagna cauda, an Italian dipping sauce of olive oil, butter, garlic, and anchovies. And such batons get you halfway to a pretty dice for a vegetable soup. Hand wash. --Fred Brack

Excellent, but should be larger April 7, 2005 P. R. Foltz (Doylestown, PA USA) 31 out of 31 found this review helpful
This is an excellent cutter, that comes with several different size blade fittings (for thinner or thicker fries). It sets up very easily, and can be easily disassembled and popped into the dishwasher.
The one complaint I have is that the blade base should be a bit bigger so that large spuds can be passed through without having to cut the spud into smaller bits first.
The lever arm is a bit short, so that my wife has asked me to cut the potatos - since some weight has to be put into operating the lever.
It makes uniformly cut fries, that cook evenly. It makes the joy of fresh cut fries accessible to more people - so please skip the frozen fries and give yourself a real treat!
Almost too cool for words January 2, 2001 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
I had my doubts whether or not this was worth the money, but it works like a dream. It cuts preparation time to next to nothing and the resulting fries were perfect. In fact, I usually end up fixing more fries than I need because it really is fun to use! Two comments for prospective buyers: first, the fries come shooting out fairly quickly, and I've found it helpful to put a bowl in the kitchen sink, and then set the cutter on the counter above. Otherwise, you might end up with some on the kitchen floor as I did the first time I used it. Second, if you have larger potatoes it seems to work better if you cut them in half first.
i loved the machine!!! October 22, 2002 E. Hyman (schenectady, ny United States) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
i had previously broken a good cooks french fry cutter and was desperate for a new more sturdier and better cutter. i was a little skeptical about buying this one. i make a lot of fries and i dislike cutting them by hand. when i received this cutter i noticed it was a little smaller than my last model but thats where my skepticism ended. this slicer has such a smooth glide. it actually pushes the potato through the blade so you get an even thorough cut. if you have a large potato you may have to cut it in half but who cares. this is a wonderful cutter i recommend it to everyone.
Great item for cooks June 9, 2000 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I have found the Progressive French Fry cutter is great for cutting potatoes for Potato Salads they are just the right size, I also cut everything else that goes in the salad. It makes for quick and easy cutting and clean up. I have alot of kitchen tools and this is the one I use the most.. I hope they come out with a blade for slicing. If they already have the slicing blade please let me know where I can get it.
You will love it! August 31, 2003 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
One of the best little gadgets I have ever used, and use it I do! I am still finding new uses for it. Some examples: apples-for pies, frying, fruit salads, onions, etc. The thing to remember is to make sure that whatever you put in to slice, needs to fit. If for example the potato is larger than the square blade grid it will be very difficult to push it through. So take a bit off the top when the veggie is too large. (I had to learn this through trial, error and aggravation.)I wanted to write this to hopefully save someone else from the same.
